Born and raised in North Dakota, I’ve always been a creative person. Funnily enough I didn’t gain serious interest in style until middle school! I began my college career in the medical field and even got accepted into my university’s competitive nursing program, but about a semester in, sketching outfits, online shopping and Googling designers in my nursing classes (not to mention this unshakable feeling that I wasn’t in the right spot there), I decided to discontinue the nursing program. My parents were shocked, but I knew I wanted to do this.

Fast forward a few years, I am the proud owner of a Bachelor’s Degree in fashion, and throughout the past few years I’ve enjoyed working in fashion in the areas of Personal Styling, Fashion Styling, Retail Management, Visual Merchandising, Design and now Blogging!

I have a mom, dad, sister and doggo, Sarge, and I love them more than words can describe.

“And though she be but little, she is fierce.”

– William Shakespeare

I am serious when I want to be and need to be… but there’s a reason a nickname I’ve gained in life is

“Markel Sparkle”

I’m a short-haired, creative soul of a blondie who loves people, life, style (not the same as fashion, more on this later!), creativity and “leaving a little sparkle wherever I go”. Being a personal stylist is a way that helps me do that, and if I can help someone develop their own personal style and get them into clothes that make them feel like the best version of themselves – it brings me a special happiness that is one-of-a-kind.

I LoVe…

Style: dressing for YOU and embracing your own unique aesthetic, your very own “look”. Just because something is a “now” fashion trend in a magazine, doesn’t mean it has to automatically make the cut into your wardrobe! Be ruthless as you curate your wardrobe! Every piece in it should shout “Ohhhh yea! This is MY style and this is ME!”

You know that Enrique song… “You take, my breath away…” He must’ve wrote that song about the effect corgis have on me. There was a time I was on a walk with my family, I gasped, mid-sentence of what I was saying, to go say hi to a corgi dog on the other side of a dog park fence we were going by! Maybe it’s partially because I relate to those cute little doggos since we both have short legs?

(shout out to my German short-haired pointer, Sarge, I love you just as much as corgis just so you know – keep being a good boy, Sargeroni!)

I would not be the same person I am today if it weren’t for my family. We’ve supported each other through a lot of things, through thick and thin. I’m so thankful for them, and, especially as I’ve gotten older, I cherish the time I get with them even more.

Inspirational books & quotes: for example, “Never Stop Moving”

I can’t even BEGIN to tell you how many books I have on life motivation, self-development and inspirational poetry and quote books! My favorite tea even comes with an inspirational quote on each of the tea tags on the tea bag. “Never Stop Moving” is one I heard from my personal trainer and to me it means more than just “Never Stop Moving” in your workout, it also applies to life (more on this later!).

Living life for more than just yourself

We’ve all been given something so precious: the opportunity to live. I see it this way. We were not given this one amazing, adventure of a life just so we could wake up every day and ONLY chase after our own wants and needs, careless of others. We each have our own gifts we were blessed with and we were given these gifts to make a positive impact and leave the world better than we found it when our time here is done.
